September Spark Grants

Wyoming Humanities just awarded $2,000 Spark Grants to three more organizations this month:

Bookmarked Literary Arts Festival: Bookmarked takes place Sept. 29-Oct. 1 in Lander.  The festival includes a youth “flash fiction” contest, a poetry slam, fiction and non-fiction readings, poetry readings, as well as a book fair. Bestselling author Chris Bohjalian serves as the events’ keynote speaker. Complete event details can be found at https://www.bookmarkedfestival.com/.

Albany County Public Library Foundation: The Young Writers Program takes place on Fridays beginning Oct. 27 at the Albany County Public Library in Laramie. The five-week series focuses on National Novel Writing Month and its connection to humanities through literature and storytelling, using hand-on activities and writing time. The series will conclude with a reception and awards ceremony. Additional details can be found at https://www.acplwy.org/.

Cheyenne Symphony Orchestra: This YES! (Youth Educational Symphony) program provides a free, live, educationally geared symphony concert to approximately 3000 fifth- and sixth-grade students from across Laramie County on January 25, 2024, at the Cheyenne Civic Center. The program helps create focus by creating valuable connections between history, cultural literacy and music appreciation, as well as introduce the basics about symphony orchestras and concerts. More information can be found at https://cheyennesymphony.org.

Spark Grants are awarded based on communities’ needs and programs designed to spark new insights and perspectives. Funding is provided by the state of Wyoming through the Wyoming Department of State Parks and Cultural Resources. Grantees, who receive up to $2,000 with this opportunity, provide equal or greater matching funds and in-kind contributions. Wyoming Humanities’ grants generate significant social and economic impact five times greater than state funding.
