His account illuminates a larger narrative between the power of wealth and the forces of law order. Participants will come away with an understanding of what an enormous challenge to democracy vigilantism was in early Wyoming and how the fight against willful cattle barons shaped the history of the state.

Jessica chronicles John Wesley Powell’s expeditions on the Green and Colorado Rivers. She intertwines her own adventures on the Colorado River with other contemporary experiences on the river using historic documents and photographs as well as youtube videos in her presentation.

Flock holds an MA in Education from the University of Wyoming and has worked as a Substitute, ESL, Social Studies and Reading teacher and librarian in Albany County and the Cathedral Home in Laramie.  She is also a UNC Workshop facilitator.  She recently accepted the position of History Day Coordinator with the American Heritage Center at the University of Wyoming.

Kit Carson in Wyoming and the West with John D. Farr @ Grand Encampment Museum

Kit” Carson, was a mountain man fur trapper, explorer, and military leader.   He did not read or write but spoke 12 languages, including Native American languages and is estimated to have traveled 50,000 miles on foot in the western territories.  Learn about the life and times of the famous but unknown “Kit” Carson which included California statehood, the Civil War, early western settlement and war with Mexico.
